Speaker 1:

Hey, hey, hey. Guys, we're back with another Shades of Tone episode with your girl, tone Motivates, and today we're going to be chatting about breaking barriers, overcoming self-limiting beliefs to achieve our goals. A really awesome quote I saw at brainyquotecom is by Jackie Rosen, and she said if we are going to create the future, then we must break down the barriers that are holding us back from our full potentials. Let's chat about some examples of self-limiting beliefs. They can include I am not good enough, I don't deserve and I can't. All of these can be lingering around in your head just waiting for their chance to rain on your parade. So let's get into discrediting these little boogers in our head for good. Okay, so let's set the stage.

Speaker 1:

What are self-limiting beliefs? Imagine driving a car with the handbrake on. That's what self-limiting beliefs do? They slow you down and sometimes make you feel stuck in place. Self-limiting beliefs are little lies we tell ourselves that keep us from greatness. You know, like I'm not smart enough or I'm too old to try something new. Think of a goal you've been avoiding. What's the first thought that comes to mind when you imagine starting it? That's likely your limiting belief talking. So where do these beliefs come from?

Speaker 1:

Let's discuss some common origins of self-limiting beliefs. It can involve childhood experiences. Maybe you were told stay in your lane, and now you're too scared to dream big. It could come from societal pressures. How many times have you been told that's not practical or be realistic? I know I'm always told that because I'm the delirious optimist. But let's dig a little bit, grab a piece of paper and write down one belief you carry for years. Where do you think it came from? Is it yours or did someone else plant it there? Let's get into some strategies for identifying self-limiting beliefs.

Speaker 1:

To some strategies for identifying self-limiting beliefs. Now, awareness is key. Every time you think, I can't pause and ask yourself why not? Are you stopping yourself or is this an actual barrier? Second challenge the belief Ask. Is this true? Is there evidence to support this belief or is it just a fear wearing a convincing disguise? For example, if you think I'm not smart enough to do or start a business, look at all the self-taught entrepreneurs driving out there. A lot of them don't even have a degree of formal training.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes you have to reframe your narrative, shift it Instead of saying I've never done this before. Try. This is an exciting opportunity to learn something new. Prompty, prompt. Take one limiting belief and write a new, empowering version of it. For example, change I'm too old to switch careers to. I have a lifetime of experience to bring to this new path.

Speaker 1:

Let's break through the beliefs. Let's take small, bold actions. If you think you can't speak in public, practice reading a recipe out loud to your friends Baby steps. Prompt. What's one tiny, manageable step you can take this week to challenge your belief? Commit to it. Two surround yourself with evidence of success. Here's a tip Follow people who've already done what you think you can't. Let their stories rewrite yours.

Speaker 1:

I challenge you to find one inspiring story today that contradicts your belief. Write down why it inspires you. You can also create a personal mantra, for example. When I feel doubt creeping in, I tell myself I'm capable and I'm learning every day. What's yours? I'm capable and I'm learning every day what's yours.

Speaker 1:

Now we know that there are real life barriers and breakthroughs. For example, I once thought I couldn't start a podcast because I assumed I'd be inconsistent and no one would listen. Now, here we are, chatting like old friends. I would love for you to send me your self-limiting belief and the step you're taking to overcome it. I'd love to feature your breakthrough story in a future episode. Your beliefs are lenses on a camera. If they're smudged or broken, your view of the world is distorted. Clean those lenses and you'll see the world and your potential clearly. So let's recap our action steps Identify your belief, challenge its truth, reframe the narrative and take small, bold actions. What's one belief you're ready to rewrite, starting today, say it loud. It's the first step to breaking the barrier. As always, always, love.
