Beyond Stereotypes Embracing a New Wellness Path

In our latest episode of Shades of Tone, I share my own path to self-discovery, revealing how discarding traditional wellness stereotypes led me to a more balanced and authentic life. From the quiet power of home workouts and the introspection of journaling to the spiritual nuances of yoga and sound healing, I explore how embracing a variety of practices can enrich our understanding of mental, emotional, spiritual, and social health. This episode is a celebration of the infinite ways wellness can manifest, urging you to find those practices that truly resonate with your unique essence.
Celebrating diversity isn't just about acknowledging different practices but also ensuring wellness is accessible to all, regardless of background, body type, or ability. Together, we challenge the rigid ideals of what wellness "should" look like and advocate for more inclusive spaces where everyone feels empowered to pursue their wellness journey. By honoring the traditions and wisdom of various cultures, we open ourselves to new experiences that keep our wellness practices evolving. This week, I invite you to let go of comparisons, embrace the richness of diversity in your wellness journey, and reflect on what genuinely makes you feel whole and balanced.

What's up motives? It's the one and only Tone Motivate. Back with another episode of Shades of Tone, and today we're going to be celebrating diversity and wellness, different paths to self-discovery. So you know, I got to hit you with a quotey quote. So we need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things such as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing and inclusion. And that's from Challycom. So let's hop right into it. Let's chat about the beauty of diversity and wellness.
Speaker 1:I remember a time when I thought wellness had a one-size-fits-all approach Early morning runs, green smoothies, yoga and meditation. But as I explored different paths, I realized that wellness can look completely different for each of us, and that's the beauty of it. Today we're celebrating diversity and wellness. We'll explore how there are countless paths to self-discovery and that each person's journey to health, balance and well-being can look unique. In a world that often pushes the best way to achieve wellness, it's important to recognize and celebrate the different ways we can find our own balance. Wellness is about discovering what works for you, not what works for someone else. So let's define wellness.
Speaker 1:What does wellness mean? Well, wellness isn't just about being physically fit. It's about your mental, emotional, spiritual and social health, and it looks different for everyone. What makes one person feel balanced might not work for someone else. For me, I used to think wellness was all about hitting the gym every day, but I quickly realized that wasn't sustainable for my lifestyle or my mental health. I knew I had to become more active, but I realized I was more likely to work out at home than leave my home to do it. I also realized over time that journaling, long walks and creative expression were just as important as physical exercise for my well-being. Reflect on your own definition of wellness. When you think about wellness, what comes to mind? Is it something you feel you should be doing, or does it align with what truly brings you peace and balance? There's no one right way to be well. Your path to wellness is as unique as you are and it might change over time as you grow and evolve.
Speaker 1:Let's explore different wellness practices. There are so many different ways to practice wellness, from traditional approaches like yoga and meditation to alternative paths like sound healing, creative expression or even spending time in nature. I want to highlight cultural diversity and wellness. Wellness practices also vary across cultures. For example, a vervetic medicine from India emphasizes balance through diet, herbs and meditation, while indigenous healing practices might focus on connecting with the earth and community rituals. Each culture brings its own wisdom to the idea of wellness. Reflect on any cultural or family traditions you've seen or practiced that contribute to your wellness. Are there wellness traditions from your culture or family that you practice or appreciate? How do they help you feel grounded? Or a family that you practice or appreciate? How do they help you feel grounded?
Speaker 1:I myself was introduced to mindfulness through a friend who had a TV station. Shout out to Tori and Deed and Vibe to Vibe TV. The vibe is always real and she had a guest, nene Grace, and she encouraged me to do spiritual activities to influence wellness and, even though it was different from anything I tried before, it became a key part of my wellness routine. Let's talk about self-discovery through wellness practices. Wellness practices are often about more than just physical health. They can also be a path to self-discovery. When you explore different ways to take care of your mind and body, you start learning more about yourself. Practices like yoga or tai chi aren't just about movement. They're about connecting your mind and body, helping you tune into your inner world and find clarity For me. I always wrote poetry, songs and such, but journaling became a tool for self-reflection. I started to understand patterns in my thoughts and emotions which helped me realize what was truly important to me. I even go back to the date the year before to reflect on where I was mentally this time of year before, and it's instant gratification seeing my growth in writing. I encourage you to think about a wellness practice that helps you learn more about yourself. Has there been a time when a wellness practice helped you gain a deeper understanding of yourself or your needs? What did that look like for you?
Speaker 1:Break away from the wellness trend pressure. In today's world, wellness has become a trend and sometimes it can feel like there's pressures to follow the latest fad, whether it's a new diet, a workout plan or self-care routine. But true wellness isn't about following trends. It's about finding what works for you. I remember jumping on the latest exercise bundle trend as an affiliate, only to feel more stressed about keeping up with it than actually feeling well, being a product of the product for my audience and struggling to keep up. It took me a while to realize that wellness isn't something you copy from others. It's something you create for yourself. We need to break the comparison. We also need to stop comparing our wellness journeys to others. Just because a certain practice works for someone else doesn't mean it's right for you. Wellness is very deeply personal. Reflect on whether you felt pressured to follow certain wellness trends. Have you ever felt like you had to try a certain wellness practice because it seemed like everyone else was doing it? How did that make you feel you need to discover what works for you.
Speaker 1:Part of celebrating diversity and wellness is giving yourself the freedom to experiment. Part of celebrating diversity and wellness is giving yourself the freedom to experiment. Try new things, explore different practices and see what resonates with you. Maybe you'll love meditation, or maybe you'll find that dancing is what really brings you joy. Find joy in the process. Wellness isn't about reaching a final destination. It's about enjoying the journey. There's no rush to get it right. The goal is to discover what helps you feel balanced, healthy and connected to yourself. I never thought I enjoy meditation or being in solitude, but when I started intentionally giving myself space in alone time, my thoughts and feelings were more obvious. It became a key part of my emotional wellness. I challenge you to try a new wellness practice this week, whether it's a meditation app, a creative project or even just a nature walk. Experiment with something that sparks your curiosity. Walk, experiment with something that sparks your curiosity.
Speaker 1:The importance of inclusivity and wellness. Wellness should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background, body type or ability. We need to create spaces that celebrate inclusivity, where all people feel welcome to explore their own path to wellness. Let's break down these stereotypes. There's often a stereotype about what wellness looks like, but true wellness doesn't have a specific look. It's not about having the perfect body or following the latest trend. It's about finding what makes you feel good in your own skin. I invite you to think about how you can make your own wellness journey more inclusive. What can you do to make your wellness journey more inclusive, whether it's being kind to yourself about where you're at or inviting others to explore wellness practices with you? How can you celebrate diversity in your approach? I, for one, started embracing a more inclusive mindset around wellness by letting go of the idea that I had to look or act a certain way to be healthy. It opened up new ways for me to feel good in my body and my mind. So let's recap Today we celebrated the diversity and wellness, how different paths to self-discovery, from cultural practice to modern approaches, can help us find our unique balance.
Speaker 1:Remember, there's no one size fits all when it comes to wellness. What works for one person might not work for you, and that's okay. The goal is to find your own path and honor what makes you feel good. The beauty of wellness is that it's a lifelong journey. As you grow, change and evolve, so will your practices. Stay open, stay curious and, most importantly, stay true to yourself. This week, celebrate the diversity in your own wellness journey, try something new, reflect on what's worked for you and, most importantly, honor your unique path to self-discovery and balance. We'd love to hear from you, as always, always love.
