Speaker 1:

Hey Motives, welcome back to Shades of Tone, where we are fitness for the mind and exploring mental wellness practices. From the words of EmbraceHealthcom, taking care of your mental health is an act of self-love. So here at Shades of Tone, we flex our self-reflection muscles and stretch into deeper truths. I'm Tone Motivates. And today we're not talking about biceps or burpees. No, no, no, baby. We're diving into mental fitness. That's right. Just like the body needs exercise, our mind craves it too. But before you start packing your mental gym bag, let's explore what fitness for the mind is all about.

Speaker 1:

Think about mind lifting weights A metaphor for heavy breathing. So the mental gym. What is it? So picture this you walk into a mental gym. What do you see? Maybe some yoga mats for mindfulness, a weight room full of challenges to strengthen resilience, and perhaps a cool down corner for self-compassion or Zen. It's about building habits that help our minds stay strong, flexible and ready for whatever life throws at us. So should I warm up my brain with the crossword? Now, that's up to you. Sidebar, neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to adapt and grow and is the key to mental fitness. This is why it's important to consistently feed it and strengthen it. Did you know, learning something new can build mental muscles, just like lifting a weight for the first time makes your arms sore but stronger. This is why crosswords, sudoku puzzles, solitaire, math games, checkers and chess or any kind of memory game improve your brain, focus and IQ. So for mental workouts, I know you're wondering what are these workouts for the mind? Am I going to need a personal trainer for my thoughts? Not quite, but I've got a few quirky mental fitness routines that will make this journey both fun and enlightening.

Speaker 1:

One mindfulness pushups. Okay, don't worry, no pushups required, but mindfulness is like a pushup for your brain. It strengthens your ability to focus, be present and calm your thoughts. So try this Next time you have coffee or tea sit with it for one minute 60 seconds, just notice the temperature, smell and taste and boom. One mindfulness push-up done the Gratitude Stretch. Gratitude is like stretching for the soul. It opens you up and makes you more flexible in seeing the good, even in tough situations. Every night, try stretching your mind with a gratitude practice. Name three things you're thankful for. It's like yoga, but without the mat.

Speaker 1:

Now let's chat about negative thoughts Boxing. Now, this is my favorite one, because everybody has negative thoughts in some way. Right. So you have a negative thought, let's put on those mental boxing gloves and challenge it. Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, teaches us that we can counter negative thoughts with more realistic ones, like sparring with a bad thought until you get the upper hand, say, oh, I'm not good enough. Boom, boom, jab back with. Actually, I've grown a lot and I am proud of myself. Boxing bell sound Okay, ding, ding, ding, I win.

Speaker 1:

Now let's cool down with mental rest. After every workout comes the cool down. And guess what? Rest is just as important for your mind as it is for your body. I'm talking about things like sleep, meditation or even just unplugging from social media. Or even just unplugging from social media. Mental rest is the place where all that mental muscle you've been building gets to grow. So take that break. Your mind deserves a bubble bath, so to speak. Many of us skip the mental stretch and it's the reason our minds are so sore with burnout. So what's your mental workout plan this week? Maybe some mindfulness pushups, gratitude stretching or a good old mental boxing session. Remember, just like with physical fitness, mental wellness takes time, consistency and a little bit of fun. Don't be afraid to experiment, challenge yourself and, yes, take those breaks too. Thanks for tuning in to Shades of Tone, where we keep growing, flexing and loving ourselves, one episode at a time. Until next time, take care of both your mind and your body, because you are worth the workout, as always, always, love.
